The Department of Primary Health Care and General Practice, University of Otago Wellington provides outstanding undergraduate medical education and is at the leading edge for providing interprofessional education at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. We are proud of our interdisciplinary research activity informing practitioners and consumers, patients and policy makers about many aspects of health and primary care.

Our undergraduate medical curriculum provides community-based learning programmes for students in their ALM (Advanced Learning in Medicine) years of their MBChB degree. Our interprofessional postgraduate courses for health professionals foster research-informed excellence and innovation in the health sector. We also offer Certificates, Diplomas, Masters and Doctorate courses by Distance Learning.

The role

This Senior Lecturer/Lecturer role within the Department of Primary Health Care and General Practice in Wellington represents an exciting opportunity for an experienced and qualified primary health care professional to make a significant contribution to on-going teaching of medical students and other departmental teaching programmes depending on your particular expertise.

This is a 'hands on' teaching and research role, this position will enable a dynamic individual to add value to the Department on all fronts including community involvement, research contribution and developing future practitioners.

Skills and experience

The successful candidate ideally will be a registered health professional with a clinical background relevant to Primary Health Care and General Practice. Applications from those with relevant other qualifications will be considered.

In addition, ideally they will also have:

  • Relevant postgraduate research degree in Health sciences or a related discipline.
  • Experience in teaching and course administration at tertiary level.
  • Active independent research portfolio as evidenced by quality publications.
  • Ability to provide service to the University and community.
  • A strong commitment to developing collaborative working relationships with colleagues.

Further information

This is a part-time (0.5 FTE negotiable), permanent (confirmation path) position available from 19 April 2021.

The level of appointment is dependent on qualifications and experience.

Additional Information
