Job description

Queen’s University Belfast in partnership with the Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency (Northern Ireland Postgraduate Deanery) and the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust provide Clinical Academic Training opportunities in research and education. These posts offer candidates a comprehensive experience in clinical academic dentistry alongside internationally recognised clinicians and researchers.

We are seeking highly motivated, enthusiastic individuals wishing to excel in both clinical and academic training and who have the ambition to be the next generation of leading academic clinicians.  Applications are now invited for Academic Clinical Fellowship (ACF) and Academic Clinical Lectureship (ACL) posts in Dentistry as part of core or specialty training.

Applications for ACF posts are invited from existing FDs, DCT1’s, DCT2’s or Specialty Registrars in Dentistry.  The ACF post is normally for 2 years. During this period it is expected that the ACF will participate in clinical training with an integrated period of 25% of whole time equivalent academic research training in the dental core specialty to which they are appointed.  It’s expected that the potential ACF will rotate in at least two Dental Core specialties.  This programme invites applicants who wish to prepare an application for an externally funded clinical research training fellowship to undertake a PhD.

The ACL post is normally for 3 years. Those appointed at ACL level will be an existing Specialist Registrar in Dentistry who have completed a PhD or be within six months of submission at time of interview.  They will finish their clinical training while continuing academic development at post-doctoral level with 50% research time at QUB.

Successful applicants will have been required to complete the DCT recruitment process in parallel to allow benchmarking for the DCT post.

Anticipated interview date:  Wednesday 14 April 2021

The University is committed to equality of opportunity and welcomes applications from all. However, our employment monitoring data tells us that individuals from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities, people with a disability and those who identify as LGBT+ are currently under-represented at the University. Also Protestants are currently under-represented in this category of work. As such, we particularly welcome applications from these individuals.

As you may be aware, Queen’s is recognised as one of the most diverse organisations in Northern Ireland. We are committed to ensuring our workplace is a safe, welcoming and inclusive place to work, which is why we subscribe to Equality Charter Marks such as Stonewall Workplace Equality Index, Diversity Charter Mark NI and Athena SWAN.

It is also why we have established award winning Staff Networks such as PRISM and iRise. These networks provide an opportunity for staff to meet in a friendly, informal way to support each other.  More details on all our networks can be found here
