Job Description Summary

This posting is for a research assistant/lab manager position in the Phillips Lab in the department of Neurology (ww.thephillipslab.com). The focus of the lab is to investigate mechanisms of epigenetic regulation in brain cancer, particularly glioblastoma. The lab employs a range of approaches including in vitro culture,  in vivo mouse models, molecular biology, biochemical and computational approaches to address questions. Our discoveries aim to set the stage for novel treatments for these aggressive cancers.

Job Description

The Phillips Lab seeks a highly motivated individual to join the team as a research assistant/lab manager. This individual would work closely with, and support, the PI in managing the running of the overall lab including the day-to-day operations. This includes; ordering, establishing and managing a database of laboratory orders, receipt of deliveries, develop and manage inventories of research material and conducting laboratory experiments to support the team. Experience with in vivo experimentation, cell culture and molecular biology valued however training will be provided where necessary. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, able to successfully multi-task, and able identify/recognize and resolve issues independently.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ degree in biological science with 1-3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required in working in a research laboratory
  • Experience with molecular biology, in vivo experiments and cell culture valued.  Strong working knowledge of biology
  • lab manager experience valued but not essential
  • The candidate is expected to have strong organizational and time management skills, able to manage and prioritize and work independently, as well as collaboratively. The candidate is expected to have a keen attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.

This position is contingent upon funding.
