The Penn Wharton Budget Model (PWBM) is a non-partisan, research-based initiative that provides accurate, accessible and transparent economic analysis of public policy.

Job Description

The Penn Wharton Budget Model (PWBM) is seeking an Associate Director of Policy Analysis for Modeling to join our team. The candidate will work closely with the Director of Policy Analysis to manage the policy analysis team and contribute to the development of PWBM’s microsimulation model. The candidate will be responsible for managing projects related to the development of the models used in the microsimulation, managing RAs and undergrads under the Director of Policy Analysis’s supervision, and managing the processing and intake of datasets necessary for policy analysis. The candidate will work with the Director of Policy Analysis in developing a roadmap of policies to analyze and will have the opportunity to meet with lawmakers desiring analysis from the PWBM team. Additionally, the candidate will have opportunities to conduct complementary independent research and writing.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a BA in Economics or a related field and at least six years of experience building and using empirical models to evaluate policy; or equivalent combination of education and experience. The candidate will have research experience in tax policy or another policy field as well as experience working with large data sets. Proficiency in statistical programming languages, such as R and STATA, and object-oriented languages, such as Python, Java, and C#, is required.

Responsibilities

  • Manage projects related to the development of the models used in the microsimulation.
  • Develop modules for policy analysis and inclusion in the microsimulation.
  • Manage multiple RAs and undergrads. Work with the Director to establish goals for team members, regularly evaluate performance, mentor and provide guidance.
  • Manage the processing and intake of datasets necessary for policy analysis.
  • Conduct complementary independent research and writing.
  • Work with Director to develop a roadmap of policies to analyze.
  • Work with Director and meet with lawmakers desiring an analysis.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
