Our work informs cutting-edge debates on human groups, individuals, and their environments by integrating disciplinary and professional approaches. The Faculty is looking for applicants who show excellence in research and teaching for the following position. 

Associate / Assistant Professor in Global and China Studies (PR0248/20-21)

Global and China Studies is a newly developed undergraduate programme which emphasises the integration of interdisciplinary curriculum of China and global studies, cross-cultural experiential learning and research skill training for students to explore a changing China in the evolving world order. The programme offers a vibrant and collegial academic environment for research and teaching.

The Programme is recruiting an Associate/Assistant Professor with primary expertise in China studies and in one of the following areas including international development, international relations, international political economy or governance and public policy. The appointee is expected to contribute to teaching in one or more of the following areas: (i) political economy of global and China contexts; (ii) China’s global relations; and (iii) environment and social development issues, as well as to supervise students’ research projects and experiential learning in overseas and China. The appointee is also expected to publish and acquire competitive research grants and other external research funding. Other duties include (i) development of teaching and learning activities; (ii) supervision of undergraduate and graduate students’ independent research projects or theses; (iii) teaching of relevant graduate level courses; and (iv) performing administrative duties and services at department, faculty, and university levels. Depending on one’s discipline and expertise, the appointee will be affiliated to a department of the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Requirements:
Applicants should have a relevant PhD degree, appropriate teaching and research experience in higher education and a solid competitive research grant and publication record. Applicants for the rank of Associate Professor should have a strong publication record, success in competitive research grant applications as principal investigator, and hybrid or online teaching experience. 

This is a tenure-track position with initial appointment on a fixed-term contract of two to three years commencing September 2021. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to mutual agreement. Tenured appointment is expected to be attained within six years. Outstanding candidates at Associate Professor rank may be considered for tenure on appointment.

Rank and Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
