Position Focus:

Reporting to the Director of Organizational Effectiveness and Staff Development, the Sr. Organizational Learning & Development Consultant will play a key role in building HR programs that enhance Yale’s learning strategy, organizational effectiveness and future-state workforce capabilities.

Serving as an internal management consultant and project lead for strategic engagements, the successful candidate will provide value-added strategic consultation and project management expertise to evolve and improve utilization of human resources systems and tools, such as performance management, Managing at Yale and other learning programs, and talent and succession planning. In addition, through collaboration with key stakeholders and departments, the candidate will support others in developing and implementing enterprise-wide or functional learning and development programs to meet a wide variety of needs. This experienced business architect and change practitioner will also conduct organizational or departmental analysis and translate those findings into transformational, process improvement, team development, or change management projects or programs and recommend the appropriate organization development and/or learning development resources to support them.

This position requires advanced experience in organizational analysis and human resources management systems, and a demonstrated understanding of how aligning learning and development processes influences capabilities, behavior, motivation, output, and culture and produces measurable outcomes. Essential Duties

  1. Designs and recommends organizational development strategies, initiatives, programs and interventions in support of the enterprise business strategy.
  2. Anticipates organizational impacts of current and future business strategies and develops/provides advice, action plans and interventions to minimize risk and increases organizational performance.
  3. Leads the development of organizational and individual effectiveness/performance assessments and the development of recommendations that enable proactive management of business and people issues and risks.
  4. Provides Best Practice Organizational Development and Design models and methodology as well as useful applicable research.
  5. Identifies, assesses and diagnoses client problems and issues, including data gathering, research and data analysis.
  6. Partners with, includes and/or interacts with other HR staff and directors to increase effectiveness and collegiality.
  7. Provides leadership in change management and transformation by consulting on and developing strategic and tactical approaches and practices.
  8. Provides a broad range of consultative services to all levels of employees.
  9. Facilitates select forums and meetings to foster organization learning.
  10. May supervise other staff.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Master's Degree in Organizational Development, Human Resources, Psychology, or a related field and six to eight years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Demonstrated ability working with all levels of management, assessing needs, diagnosing challenges and creating appropriate solutions to enhance individual and organizational effectiveness in support of strategic goals.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Ability to strategically consult on the design of in-person, virtual, or blended learning programs suggesting a variety of instructional design principles to capture a wide range of learning styles.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Demonstrated ability managing HR projects; i.e. program improvement, talent effectiveness initiatives, leadership program course development and delivery, assessment and coaching. Ability to identify and incorporate best practices and lessons learned into future program planning; to spot future organizational trends and proactively correct course, as necessary.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Demonstrated proficiency with organizational effectiveness concepts such as strategic planning, organizational analysis, needs assessment, cultural assessment, organizational design, goal setting, instructional design, performance optimization, and expert facilitation.

Required Skill/Ability 5:

Demonstrated well-developed verbal, written, presentation, facilitation and communication skills. Proven ability to deliver exceptional service to all internal and external customers. Strong attention to detail and outstanding self-initiative, personal accountability, and follow through.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Master’s in Organizational Development, HRM, Instructional Design, BA, Psychology, or a related field preferred. Experiencing analyzing organization effectiveness, learning and development programs solving challenges, and/or implementing said programs and working with tech solutions, technical focused trainers, vILT, or tech platforms for learning/development delivery.

Preferred Licenses or Certifications:

SPHR, PHR, Certified Professional in Talent Development (CPTD), DiSC or MBTI certification. Change Management certification.
