  • 2 x Full-time, 3 -year fixed-term contract positions based at RMIT City campus but may be required to work and/or be based at another campus of the University and/or partner institutes (including overseas)
  • Grow and further develop your teaching & research expertise and experiences in Machine Learning and/or Artificial Intelligence to deliver impactful and effective learning experiences to students via use of digital teaching technologies, in-line with School of Computing Technologies, STEM College and the University strategic goals
  • Report directly to the Professor John Thangarajah, Associate Dean, Artificial Intelligence
  • Remuneration at Academic Level A ($68,983 - $93,569) or Academic Level B ($98,495 - $116,965) + 17% superannuation

School of Computing Technologies

There are three discipline clusters in the Computing Technologies School:

  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Cloud, Systems & Security
  • Data Science

The School's PhD students and faculty conduct world class research in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Search and Recommendation, Machine Learning, Data Analytics, Distributed Computing and Cybersecurity. Our goal is consolidating our digital innovation capabilities and expertise into one School positions us to respond to strategic industry and economic opportunities aligned to digital technology and transformations. The School will fast-track digital innovation across all College programs and elevate our external position as a leader in technology and digital innovation. The School's leadership is tasked with the significant responsibility of building the architecture and capability to position RMIT with a supercomputer capacity and a world class digital leading lab which will support interdisciplinary activities as they transition into augmented reality.

About You and the Role

You will be responsible for:

  • Developing and delivering authentic & pragmatic learning and teaching opportunities for students at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate level including delivery of lectures, and programs through high-quality and engaging course materials; preparing, conducting and moderating assessment; implementing improvements informed by course evaluation activities and student feedback;
  • Conduct research/scholarly activities under limited supervision both independently and as a member of the team, including publishing research outcomes as lead or co-author in highly ranked journals, conferences and forums, submitting and actively identifying appropriate research grants & funding, involvement in collaborative projects and supervision of higher degree by research students, honours and WIL (Work Integrated Learning) projects as appropriate;
  • Cultivate and ensure strong relationships through developing networks, maintaining memberships, links and partnerships with academic members, industry and professional communities; as well as participation in the on-going process improvement within this discipline and in the School of Computing Technologies;
  • Commitment to perform varied academic administrative duties based on the level of appointment and to deliver full academic responsibility relating to the coordination of course delivery.

Qualifications

Mandatory: PhD or equivalent research doctorates in Computer Science in particularly in the areas of Machine Learning and/or Artificial Intelligence as well as teaching experience coupled with research record in relevant field.

Desirable:

  • Demonstratable experience in preparing effective and efficient lectures, tutorials, online delivery of course material and/or blended learning for students undertaking undergraduate and graduate levels in Computer Science;
  • Candidates who have in-depth knowledge and/or hands-on experience teaching in areas of Computer Scienceincluding first year programming (Java, Python) and software engineering courses are encouraged to apply;
  • Experience supervising higher degree by research candidates is desirable;
  • An emerging track record and published research outputs in high impact journals & articles in Machine Learning, preferably applied to - Reinforcement learning, Deep Learning, Machine vision, Image Recognition, optimization or autonomous decision making and contributing to the development of new research initiatives, external research funding submissions and strong linkage to industry and government is highly regarded.

Preferred: Completion of the Essentials in Tertiary Teaching Practice program or equivalent (if the appointed candidate does not meet this requirement at time of appointment, they will be supported to complete this as a requirement to fulfil their probation).

In order to be eligible for this ECDF role you will have performed casual teaching work for an Australian University during the past three years and have not been employed on a continuing basis at an Australian University. If you have previously been employed on a fixed-term basis at an Australian University are eligible for this position, however, the requirements to also have performed casual teaching work as per above parameters.

Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children check.
