The IT Associate 1 is an entry level career opportunity that provides the ability to develop and build the technical and professional skills needed to contribute to Yale’s continued dedication to expanding and sharing knowledge, inspiring innovation, and preserving cultural and scientific information for future generations.

This position works to gain and expand the core experienced individual with a passion for producing results in a complex and fast paced computing environment. This position will focus on driving process efficiencies derived from ITIL framework-based analysis of existing processes and monitored events. The incumbent will be responsible for assisting in defining, implementing, and leading continuous process improvement techniques for the ITS - Data Center/Telecommunications Infrastructure and Operations Management teams. This individual will learn and be willing to perform daily activities with minimal guidance and perform most technical activities within the IT spaces including commissioning and decommissioning of IT equipment and a quick learner of power and cooling systems.

During the first year, the incumbent should expect to:

  • Learn and demonstrate introductory level of managing IT spaces from a facilities area.
  • Learn and demonstrate introductory level of Data Center Infrastructure Systems.
  • Learn and demonstrate introductory level of Yale’s infrastructure services, such as Network, Servers, Power Systems, Cooling systems, Fire suppression systems in an IT Data Center Environment.
  • Learn and assist in Data Center and Telecommunications IT environments of new Facilities Infrastructure upgrades and renovations.
  • Triage and prioritize incoming support requests through Service Now.
  • Respond to user IT requests and requests through Service Now.
  • Learn and demonstrate introductory level of Power Systems and Cooling Systems.

Essential Duties

  1. Works closely with experienced staff to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to become proficient in area(s) of specialization. Takes initiative to increase understanding of all job-related areas.
  2. Assists in applying principals and methods of the functional area to problems in technical areas to arrive at viable solutions.
  3. Perform analysis, design, implementation and maintenance activities within area(s) of focus
  4. Troubleshoot processes, issues and errors.
  5. Participate in projects that solve business requirements.
  6. Explore and propose creative information technology solutions to business problems.
  7. Pursues opportunities for efficiencies and/or to achieve cost reduction.
  8. Work with business and technical partners to resolve business issues and respond to ad hoc requests.
  9. Ensure all work is in compliance with Yale University and Information Technology policies, procedures, guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  10. Complete additional assignments as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree and no experience necessary or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
