Reader/Principal Lecturer: Research
Hatfield, Hertfordshire
£51,034 - £60,905per annum depending on skills and experience

Building on our entry into the REF2021, we are seeking to strengthen our research leadership by appointing a collegiate, practice-focused researcher with world class publications. The School of Education is highly esteemed, one of the top 400 departments of education worldwide, gaining nationally leading results in the 2019 Postgraduate Research Experience Survey. For example, we are ranked 1st for research culture.

Main duties & responsibilities
To make a significant contribution to the leadership of research, working collaboratively, flexibly, and independently with staff in and beyond the School, to gain research awards and other external funding, develop the research environment in the School and across the University, and publish in peer reviewed journals and other internationally excellent or world-leading publications in education. The major focus of teaching and programme development will be the EdD programme, which includes cohorts based in Shanghai, though you will work in other areas of the School’s portfolio as appropriate.

Skills and experience needed
You will have experience of engaging in high quality research and income generation, with the ability to develop high quality pedagogical teaching using a range of teaching and learning strategies. You will have a record of publication of peer-reviewed journal articles and other world-leading publications in education, and have strong experience of contributing to the development and maintenance of a strong research environment. You will bring sufficient knowledge and experience to lead and manage research projects effectively, demonstrate good communication skills in a variety of situations, and be personally effective in a demanding and complex environment. The role requires the skills of participating in, and developing, networks and work with external partners.

You will be proficient in the English language, both spoken and written. Ideally, your areas of research will be complementary to the School’s existing strengths, and you will have knowledge of curriculum, resource and supervision practice development. There may be a requirement for international travel.

Qualifications required
Doctorate relevant to the field of education is essential, and Fellowship of AdvanceHE would be advantageous.

Readership
As this is a readership appointment the names and contact details of three academic referees of appropriate standing in the field are required, who may be approached by the University prior to interview. Please provide these in your Personal Statement.

The Appointment Panel for the post will be constituted in such a way that if the successful candidate fulfils the University's Readership criteria, then the Panel may award a Reader title to the successful applicant.
