Provost

THE ROLE

The Provost is the Chief Academic Officer of UAEU responsible for leading the University in all academic matters.  This will include, devising the academic strategy and initiatives to position UAEU as the university of choice nationally, regionally, and internationally. The Provost will shape the academic landscape for the institution by developing academic plans, programs, curricula, and policies which support the University’s strategic vision and will ensure delivery to the highest academic standards.

Reporting to the Vice Chancellor, the Provost is a key member of the University Executive Committee.  The Provost has twelve direct reports including the Deans, Associate Provost Academic Affairs, Associate Provost Student Affairs, and Associate Provost of Research & Graduate Studies. The appointee will establish the overall direction for the university’s academic activities, resources, and operations, creating an environment that encourages scholarship, research, and teaching & learning excellence. Furthermore, the Provost will develop the University’s educational masterplan including the academic budget, long term planning for educational programs, faculty development and curriculum enhancement plans, aligned to the University strategic plan.

As an accomplished scholar, you will be able to inspire faculty and students with a sense of pride and purpose, serve as an innovative leader to grow and build high quality programs across the Colleges, and provide an unwavering commitment to research, student affairs, undergraduate and graduate education. The new Provost will have a strong global network, and the proven ability to develop partnership both regionally and internationally.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• A doctorate from an internationally recognized institution.

• A minimum of 10 years at professorial level together with at least 5 years’ experience in senior academic administration.

• A personal record of academic and scholarly achievement to merit the rank of full Professor.

• An outstanding research publication record.

• Leadership experience, as a minimum at Deanship level.

• Experience in accreditation, curriculum development, and use of outcomes assessment to drive curricular innovation and improvement.

• Experience in developing research strategies and research programs.

• Budget preparation skills, developing and implementing goals, managing resources, strategic planning and interdisciplinary scholarly skills.

• Experience of managing in a fast-moving environment together with the ability to appreciate the cultural norms and values that underpin the institutional community.
