Job Description Summary

This position's primary function  is to facilitate, promote, and ensure good clinical practice in the conduct of all research protocols in the Department/Center. This individual will assist in clinical research tasks related to the sections within the Division of Cardiology (Heart Failure/Transplant, Interventional Cardiology, Electrophysiology, Imaging, Preventive Cardiology, etc..) and the Cardiovascular Clinical Research Unit (CCRU) within the Penn Cardiovascular Institute.  Independently manages different phases of complex clinical trials and mentors Coordinators and Research Assistants within division and works with partnering institutions for training and guidance on multisite projects where Penn is the lead site.  Participates  in study team meetings,  group meetings, and ongoing protocol training/compliance meetings. Supports in the monitoring of external sites and assists in the management of multisite trials. Adheres to all University and other regulatory guidelines.  The candidate must be organized, detail oriented, accountable, and adaptable.

  • Actively screen and recruit study subjects, collect, process and assist in the compilation and verification of research data ensuring data integrity and consistence with prescribed study protocol
  • Collect and manage subject data, maintain study files, contact logs, study binders; process, organize and maintain study blood samples
  • Correspond regularly with all regulatory agencies and keeping studies up to date on all regulatory matters and requests; correspond with study monitors to assure adherence to active protocols
  • Perform literary, database and web based searches; write summaries of findings as requested
  • Perform procedures where appropriately trained (e.g. EKG, vitals, 6MWT, sample collection & processing) -
  • Support informatics including building database, database management, raw data processing to get physiologic outputs using specialized software.
  • Mentorship and training of junior research staff; participate in audits where needed, develop standard operating procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree with 2-3 years of related experience in research and clinical study methodologies or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Phlebotomy skills strongly preferred but not required.

This position is contingent upon funding.
