The Robert Crown Law Library at Stanford Law School seeks applications for a Reference Librarian. In this position, you will join an outstanding team supporting world-class research and teaching, through a combination of traditional and new collections and services. We encourage both new and newer librarians to apply.

Each member of the Robert Crown Law Library works to build and sustain an equitable and inclusive work and learning environment for all members of the community. Diversity enriches the library team through exposure to a broad range of experiences and engagement with the world, helping the library identify challenges and implement solutions to the benefit of our research mission and our entire law school and university community.

Working under the supervision of the Head of Research and Instructional Services, Stanford Law School reference librarians provide premier-level reference service and research instruction. Reference librarians receive an array of requests for assistance from our faculty, students, and fellows; and collaborate on a wide range of academic projects and instructional resources, including sophisticated, in-depth research supporting faculty scholarship.

Reference librarians also actively engage in research instruction. Reference librarians have the opportunity to teach formal for-credit introductory and advanced research courses. Research training is also offered in a variety of formats, often in small group presentations to doctrinal and clinic courses. Informal instruction opportunities include meeting with students, faculty, and staff in one-on-one research consultations, answering research questions through email and in-person/remote meetings, and working with the reference team to monitor the reference desk.

Other duties include participating in the evaluation and selection of information resources; and creating, editing, and publishing bibliographies, guides, web pages, and library displays to engage our users in furtherance of the law library’s research mission. Reference librarians are actively encouraged to seek opportunities for professional growth and education evolvement, both here in the education-rich Bay Area and nationally.
