The Department/ College

The Department of Life & Environmental Sciences, which is part of the College of Natural and Public Health, is an interdisciplinary department that currently offers undergraduate programs in Life & Environmental Science, Psychology and Human Services, and Public Health and Nutrition, as well as Health Care Administration (Executive Masters). 

The College of Natural and Public Health (CNHS), which also houses the Department of Life & Environmental Sciences, is firmly grounded in the UAE’s determination to build a sustainable future while preserving the integrity of its traditions.  The College offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in key areas that promote the study of issues related to environmental, social, cultural and economic sustainability.  The majors in the College take a broad, multidisciplinary approach to identifying and addressing the complex, intertwined areas of modern society and its sustainable relationship to the natural environment.  CNHS students are uniquely equipped, through research and internship experience, to understand and to work at the intersections of the traditional disciplines of the cultural, social, humanitarian, political, scientific and technological fields.

The Opportunity

The Department of Life & Environmental Sciences is seeking enthusiastic and experienced Lab Instructor candidate who will be responsible for the technical aspects of the Science laboratories and laboratory classes. To organize and maintain laboratory facilities, equipment and supplies. Actively supports students and faculty in the implementation of laboratory classes and other laboratory and field research activities. Organizes & maintains the entire lab facility and its contents to ensure that all requirements are available and accessible when required. Liaises with faculty to coordinate laboratory activities. Sets-up apparatus and supplies prior to implementation of laboratory classes. Records and maintains laboratory supply inventories to make sure that they are available when required. Recommends and submits laboratory supply purchasing requests to ensure all Student and Faculty needs are available.  Supports faculty and students during laboratory classes. Removes/cleans-up after performance of laboratory classes. Prepares documents/reports as required. Deals with Analytical Chemistry Techniques and instrumentations particularly GC/MS, Ion Chromatography, ICP, AAS, FTIR, UV, HPLC and basic analytical instruments. Processes and pre-treats samples of environment studies (water, soil, animals & plan tissues). Manages Data, analyses and prepares result summaries from quantitative measurements and large data sets. Ready to do field trips for sample/ data collection.

The Requirements

Candidates should have a MSc at the time of appointment in Chemistry from a recognized university, and the capacity to teach in an interdisciplinary environment. Evidence of teaching excellence and experience is important along with a student-centered and innovative approach to teaching.
