Position Focus:

Position will report directly to the Director of the Neuroinflammation Lab Operations. Individual will be responsible for coordinating and processing a variety of different human samples in support of several large scale neuroinflammation projects, including research arms of investigator-initiated and sponsored clinical trials. These responsibilities include the isolation of peripheral blood mononuclear cells, isolation of immune cells from tissue samples, such as tumor resections and biopsies, and processing of saliva and fecal samples. This position requires the coordination of shipping and receiving of sample materials and reagents both internally and externally. Participation in weekly project meetings is required. Additionally, the individual will be involved in the scientific research of one or multiple research projects at the discretion of the director.

Essential Duties

  1. Recommends the design and implementation of procedures and protocols under the direction of a higher-level authority.
  2. Investigates, analyzes, and reaches preliminary scientific conclusions related to research planning
  3. Ensures data results are compiled, analyzed, and presented properly.
  4. Analyzes, develops and interprets scientific results. Maintains clear documentation of results. Prepares scientific reports and papers for research proposals and published reports.
  5. Performs independent research and laboratory techniques and participates in experimental research planning.
  6. Interacts with internal contacts including the PI, research assistants, graduate students, Radiation Safety and Biological Safety officers, and Animal Care personnel to discuss and evaluate research results and to ensure the smooth and safe operation of the laboratory.
  7. Interacts with external contacts such as researchers at other institutions, staff at biotechnology and reagents companies to consult on research methods and to keep abreast of product information and developments.
  8. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Master’s Degree in a scientific discipline and one year experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Excellent organizational skills including ability to multi-task and prioritize project needs.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Familiarity with clinical and research laboratory environment including basic pipetting skills and proper handling of human biospecimens, such as blood, blood components (serum, plasma), and tissues.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing or unforeseen conditions to successfully complete a given task.

Required Skill/Ability 5:

Ability to work independently with minimal oversight, while working well as a part of a team.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Experience with clinical trials management systems and electronic data capture systems, such as OnCore and REDCap.MS Office and cloud software such as Google Drive, Box, DropBox, and OneDrive, Experience with graphing and statistical software such as Graphpad-PRISM and R/Python. Experience with barcoded sample inventory management systems.
