Job Description Summary

The Senior Research Investigator will devote his/her time conducting research on the area of the role of the UPR/ISR in tumor progression and metastasis. She/he will perform experiments aimed at delineating the role of the transcription factor ATf4 in establishing the premetastatic niche and the role of ATF4 downstream effectors (collagen, ASNS etc) in this process. Employee will work with the PI, research specialists, as well as graduate and undergraduate students to coordinate and execute experiments in these areas including reviewing their experimental data and suggesting future experiments.  A significant percentage of his/her time will be devoted to help the PI create grant proposals involving the areas listed above as well as prepare his/her own applications for intramural and extramural funding.

Job Description

The Senior Research Investigator will devote his/her time conducting research in the areas of study of the tumor microenvironment and development and testing of new radiation response modifiers.   This position requires the employee to be able to work with a great deal of independence in devising new areas of investigation and designing experiments.  The investigator will work on delineating the role of the Unfolded Protein Response and Integrated Stress Response (UPR/ISR) in the tumor stroma (fibroblasts, immune cells, and endothelial cells) in promoting tumor growth.  She/he will also engage in developing new models of proton radiation damage using different mouse strains and analyze the combined effects of radiation and UPR/ISR modifiers in the response of normal tissue to radiotherapy.  Much of this work will be conducted in tumors grown in mice.  Employee will work with the PI, research associates and students to coordinate and execute experiments in these areas including reviewing their experimental data and suggesting future experiments.  A significant percentage of his/her time will be devoted to help the PI create grant proposals and also submit grant proposals on their own.

Qualifications
Highly advanced professional discipline. M.D., Ph.D., or equivalent doctoral degree and 5-7 years of experience is required.
