LABORATORY INSTRUCTOR, Biological Engineering, to join the teaching staff of an advanced undergraduate course that introduces students to the theory and practice of cutting-edge biological measurement and modeling techniques. The course, Biological Instrumentation and Measurement (course number 20.309/6.122J/2.673J), emphasizes the deep connection between theoretical models and breakthrough achievement in the lab. Primary responsibilities include guiding students in the lab, conducting office hours and review sessions, grading assignments, working with teaching assistants, assuring safe lab practices, working with faculty to define and develop curriculum, and maintaining and ordering lab equipment and supplies. The teaching staff also collaborates closely with students working in the new Huang-Hobbs BioMaker Space.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: master’s degree; experience with bioinstrumentation; at least two years’ experience in an academic environment; practical experience with optics and electronics; strong theoretical background in linear systems and optics; experience with biological measurement; excellent computer, oral and written communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills; supervisory experience, specifically with students. Seek a team player who is able to interact effectively with faculty, students, and administrative staff; solve problems creatively and plan strategically; and is equally at home building a fluorescence microscope, streaking a culture plate, debugging an op amp circuit, explaining Bode plots, or fabricating a microfluidic device.
PREFERRED: Ph.D in biological engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or physics; and teaching experience.
