Job Description Summary

The Assistant Director of Curriculum & Assessment (ADCA) is responsible for the assessment, monitoring, and evaluation of the curriculum and service delivery of mandated program services, as noted above, to approximately 600 low income, first-generation students who are interested in pursuing postsecondary education. The ADCA will be responsible for developing, organizing, and conducting activities and support services that will encourage and enable students to adequately prepare for high school level college preparatory programs. An understanding of statistical analysis is required. Effective communication skills are required. Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community are required. Knowledge of college educational philosophy, high school or college curricula, and instructional programs are required. The ability to plan and conduct effective meetings is required. Evidence of leadership ability is required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.

Candidates for this position must have the demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to work in complex virtual team and program environments and must be able to effectively use a variety of digital applications and tools to provide program services, adhere to program timelines, communicate, and collaborate with team members and program participants. They must demonstrate competence in the use of digital tools including team platforms, publications software, e-curriculum content, web conferencing, instant messaging, data gathering, and reporting software. Specific skills essential for this staff colleague to be successful and effective in meeting their project milestones also include evidenced skill with managing social media, creating virtual content, and curating ongoing digital outreach to program participants to support the provision of best-in-class program content and services.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

 

  • Coordinate all Talent Search virtual curricular, assessment, educational, counseling, and cultural activities for students. Design and facilitate in person and virtual workshops/information sessions for Talent Search middle school and high school students.
  • Help determine assessment needs and measure how students are meeting program outcomes.  Provide support to students and their families regarding academic strategies and accommodations.
  • Meet regularly with Penn partners, school principals, counselors, and other designated staff. Collaborate with target schools to deliver pre-college services that meet the critical academic needs of participants.
  • Provide weekly and annual reports of the use and effectiveness of service delivery.
  • Work closely with the Director to ensure that the appropriate documentation, as required by the funding agency, is maintained in individual students’ electronic and physical files.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A Master’s Degree in Curriculum Development, Education, Counseling, Social Work, or related field required. Doctorate a plus.
  • 2+ years of programming experience, preferably in college access and prep programs.
  • Experience in classroom instruction.
  • Knowledge about the college preparatory process.
  • Experience with externally funded, federal, or state academic support programs.
  • Strong leadership, organization, interpersonal, written and presentation communication and information management skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving and preparing underserved, racially and culturally diverse students for academic success and post-secondary enrollment
  • Experience working with low-income, first-generation students.
  • Experience with instructional and assessment design in a virtual learning environment.
  • Strong organizational, programming, motivational, and leadership skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, presentation and technology skills.
  • Must be knowledgeable about the college preparatory process.
  • Must be self-initiating, resourceful, and highly motivated.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities successfully.
  • Ability to advise, mentor, and coach students successfully.
  • Ability to design and implement successful educational programming.
  • Must be student-centered and service oriented.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity.
