Salary Range:
$79,938 - $85,231 pa (FTE)

Reporting to:
Manager, Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute (FHMRI)

Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute (FHMRI) aims to develop a robust, sustainable and engaged consumer engagement program for research across FHMRI that demonstrably improves research outcomes (better quality publications, funding and impact) and community involvement in our research and education.

Under general to broad direction, the Research Support Officer (Consumer Engagement) will provide administrative and project management support to build active consumer engagement capability in FHMRI.

Working as a member of the RDS team the Research Support Officer (Consumer Engagement) will work with the FHMRI Consumer Advisory Board, FHMRI Leadership and Senior Research Support Officers to design, develop, implement and evaluate consumer partnering and engagement across FHMRI research programs.

Key Position Responsibilities

The Research Support Officer is accountable for:

  • Supporting consumer relationships at the FHMRI and researcher/research group level, including developing and maintaining a consumer interest register.
  • Coordinating recruitment and training of consumers.
  • Coordinating researcher training in consumer engagement.
  • Providing advice and support to researchers for existing and new consumer and community involvement activities.
  • Providing administrative support to the Consumer Advisory Board.
  • Conducting audits and evaluations of consumer and community involvement in FHMRI and assist with the data analysis and compilation and dissemination of reports.
  • Coordinating the organisation of community events and training workshops.
  • Any other responsibilities in line with the level of the position as assigned by the Supervisor and/or the University.

Key Position Capabilities

  • An undergraduate degree or equivalent qualifications; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and/or training.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including the capacity to develop positive and effective relationships with people at all levels, both internal and external.
  • Demonstrated high level project management, organisational and administrative skills including the ability to use initiative and work independently to manage conflicting priorities and coordinate multiple tasks.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills including the ability to liaise effectively with a diverse range of people both internal and external to the University.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the research environment in Australian higher education relating to research, research training and research quality.
  • Experience with health consumer engagement is desirable.
