The Sr. BI Report Developer works in the Financial Systems and Solutions team that has specific responsibility for building or configuring, maintaining or enhancing, and eventually decommissioning Business Intelligence applications through that life cycle. The Sr. BI Report Developer will be responsible for the design, development, implementation and support of solutions that provide timely, relevant information that is used for operational and analytical decision making.
Designs custom reports and dashboards based on customer access requirements, data requirements, analysis of data sources, current reporting environment and functional design and in accordance with Yale Reporting Development standards and best practices.
Performs the detailed design of reports (Workday, YBT, PowerBI, etc.)
Performs analysis of report requirements and build reports using Workday and PowerBI best practices and efficiencies.
Assesses availability of data (sources & target) and recommends required changes to enable reporting.
Provide guidance as the subject matter expert of the various reporting tools and best practice, including data source usage, calculated field logic, custom report and dashboard development.
Utilize professional code of ethics regarding confidentiality of information and protecting rights of end-users and owners of data.
Develops reports that are in compliance with customer requirements, security requirements and best practice.
Works with Technical and Functional Leads to complete the build and deployment activities needed to support BI reporting/analytics requirements.
Participates in code reviews with peers in the reporting services group.
Test, Support and Maintenance:
Develops and executes unit test plans to ensure reporting is operating to specifications.
Attends meeting with functional partners to prototype reports and refine based on feedback.
Develops and executes technical unit test plans.
Provides support for issues and enhancements, including operational support of Production environments and reports.
Works with internal IT resources for coordination, installation and testing of required software upgrades.
1. Develops programs, reports or systems of small to moderate size and complexity. Modifies existing systems and reports at all levels of difficulty. 2. Provides informational input into decisions concerning the development and delivery of applications, programs, reports and systems. Defines and analyzes requirements to meet the expectations of stakeholders and intended end user needs, scheduled timeline, and budgetary targets. 3. Analyzes, defines and designs new systems, reports and applications. Writes code in support of business solutions. 4. Responsible for the creation, definition, communication, and management of project plans which includes architectural design, technology selection and methodologies to apply. 5. Troubleshoots problems and provide ongoing maintenance and support for applications, reports and systems. 6. Prepares documentation, user manuals and develops formal proposals for new systems and modifications to existing systems and reports. Mentors technical staff and provide training for end users. 7. Contributes in the development of policies or modifications to exiting policies. 8. Applies and keeps current with existing and emerging technologies and methodologies. Provides ongoing input to the establishment of programming standards, procedures, and methodologies. 9. May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree. Six years of related experience in analysis and programming of medium to large-scale systems, report development or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Skill/Ability 1:
Expertise in Data Warehouse, ETL, Cube and Report design and development. Ability to design and plan scalable BI solutions.
Required Skill/Ability 2:
Extensive experience with report development using various tools (PowerBI, Excel, etc.)
Required Skill/Ability 3:
Expertise working with relational and multidimensional database schemas and writing queries.
Required Skill/Ability 4:
Strong SQL Developer skills. Strong analytical skills
Required Skill/Ability 5:
Demonstrated accountability, flexibility and adaptability to handle multiple and changing priorities and be able to successfully collaborate with development teams, technology groups, functional team members and key stakeholders.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
Certified in Workday Pro - Reporting. Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services and SQL Server Analysis Services.
