Job title: Lecturer in Medieval History 1100 - 1500
Department: History
Salary range: £35, 845 to £40,322 pro rata
Closing Date: 22 February 2021
Contract: Temporary
The Department of History at Lancaster University is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Medieval History 1100-1500. This is a twenty-four month part time post (0.9 FTE), to start 1 September 2021 and ending 31 August 2023. It is designed to provide undergraduate and masters teaching cover for a Philip Leverhulme Prize award holder and to support the successful candidate in the development of their research and teaching. You will have an excellent profile in research and teaching appropriate to your career stage; particular expertise in later medieval history (1200-1500) would be an advantage.
You will have experience of teaching undergraduates, and the ability to attract students and provide high quality, research-driven teaching in the realm of political / military / ecclesiastical history 1100-1500. Your principal teaching responsibilities will be two, established seminar-based modules: ‘From Rebellion to Revolution: The War for the Throne, 1199-1265’ (a year-long special subject for final year undergraduates on the political, military and ecclesiastical history of England and the Continent), and ‘Warfare in the Medieval World, 1100-1500’ (a term-long MA module). You will also contribute to the team-taught modules ‘From Ancient to Modern: History and Historians’ (for first-year undergraduates) and ‘Warfare in History’ (for the MA International and Military History). Any additional teaching or administrative duties will be allocated to ensure that you have the same time allocation for research as other members of research active staff. Your overall workload allocation will be kept at the levels expected of a 0.9FTE member of staff as measured on the Department of History’s workload model. The Department is strongly committed to allowing you to use this post as an opportunity to develop a successful academic career.
You will have completed your PhD and will have a record of excellence in published research appropriate to your career stage, and will have concrete plans for future internationally excellent research publications and/or projects. You will have the ability to contribute to the research culture of both the Centre for War and Diplomacy (CWD) and Department of History. You will be supported in developing your research by a full research time allocation and mentoring within the Department, and by active participation as a member of CWD.
This is a part time, fixed term post.
