Description:

A search is being conducted for the Baxter and Alma Ricard Chair in Neurosurgery. This appointment is for a five-year term, and renewable in accordance with University of Toronto policy. The effective date of the appointment is July 1, 2021.

The Baxter and Alma Ricard Chair in Neurosurgery is responsible for allocating funds to foster research and educational activities within the Division of Neurosurgery at any of the University of Toronto’s fully-affiliated teaching hospitals. This may include paying for fellow or student salaries; supporting the Lougheed Microsurgical Course; supporting ongoing management of the Toronto Brain AVM Database; and implementing initiatives on a city-wide basis.

The successful candidate must have an established record of scholarly achievement and be eligible for appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto, have a background in the clinical and research aspects of Neurosurgery and have an established record of scholarly achievement. Also, the incumbent must hold a position of staff neurosurgeon at University Health Network. Candidates must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and have licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

UHN is comprised of the Toronto General Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute and is on of Canada’s largest and leading clinical and research hospitals. UHN is an academic institution affiliated with the University of Toronto and is recognized internationally for excellence in patient care, innovation, research and education. The Division of Neurosurgery at UHN is comprised of 12 full-time clinical faculty members, within multiple programs offering clinical care in the areas of spine, trauma, vascular, tumor and functional neurosurgery.
