SPACE LEAD TECHNOLOGY LEAD ENGINEER, Haystack Observatory, to lead the Space Technology Program, a growing space science and technology effort with an emphasis on radio and radar techniques and applications in the context of small spacecraft missions. Will coordinate the establishment of strategic objectives, proposal of innovative science missions and technology development projects, incubation and maintenance of institutional partnerships, hiring and nurturing of a development team, end-to-end mission hardware and software development, mission operations, and the successful delivery of data with high scientific value. Will also be a hands-on engineer, contributing in a technical capacity to mission definition, development, operation, and scientific exploitation; and serve as an ambassador to the space exploration community, collaborating with experts from academia/industry/government, speaking at conferences/symposia, and reporting on program/project progress. 

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree in relevant technical field; at least seven years’ experience working in a research environment and at least four managing space mission subsystem development or similarly complex research initiatives; demonstrated success managing medium-scale projects ($2M-$10M), including setting goals, establishing timelines, managing budgets, and meeting deliverables with a team of internal researchers and diverse stakeholders; technical leadership experience; familiarity with multidisciplinary space research with multi-institutional participation; ability to think strategically, set priorities, coordinate multiple tasks, build consensus, negotiate, work across boundaries, keep teams/projects/deliverables on track, and evaluate and revise plans/methods; ability to understand, communicate, and present complex technical information effectively; success creating new programs/initiatives/services; strong interpersonal, relationship management, program management, writing, verbal communication, and presentation skills; facility with project development tools, managing collaborative workspaces, and configuration of project documentation.

PREFERRED:  Ph.D., familiarity with MIT, and experience working with university industry partners.  Job #19184-8
