AV Support Technician
Yale Law School is seeking an Audiovisual (AV) Support Technician to join its audio-visual support team. This group provides comprehensive support services to the faculty utilizing classroom technology, and supports events and conferences. Duties include setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all audio-visual systems, and assistance in the coordination and scheduling of services for conferences and events. Working independently or as a member of the audio visual team, this position provides just- in-time support services for law school classes and events.
Provide just-in-time, comprehensive, audio-visual support services to faculty, students and staff in the law school classrooms and event venues.
Schedule lecture capture and live streaming, operate cameras, setup and monitor microphones and PA systems. Assist with presentation software and projection equipment. Setup and test video conferences via Zoom or other services. Setup and test streaming video or DVD for playback.
Using the remote monitoring capabilities monitor classrooms for equipment issues and resolve problems quickly and efficiently.
Coordinate the scheduling of audio-visual support for classes and events by tracking requests and following up with clients as necessary.
Create help documentation for classroom audio-visual equipment and train faculty, staff and students in the use of classroom systems. Assist in the update of support web pages.
During events and classes, troubleshoot equipment malfunctions. Repair, adjust or replace as necessary to insure a high level of production quality.
Provides short term solutions to rooms with equipment issues to reduce down-time.
Working with the audio-visual support team meet with faculty, staff and students to plan equipment needs and placement for events and conferences.
Ensure event support is executed through accurate and timely setup, operation and breakdown of audio visual equipment.
Perform routine maintenance of classroom audio visual equipment. Image and update classroom computers.
Daily classroom walkthrough, insure all classroom equipment is functioning and portable equipment is charged and stored properly.
When classes are not in session, under the supervision of the help desk lead, provide a variety of support services to the Law School community by answering help desk tickets and calls.
Resolves routine helpline calls, walk-ins, helpdesk support tickets but not limited to: desktops, laptops, software, mobile phones, tablets, printers, Microsoft Office, Canvas, and Office365.
Identify computer hardware and software malfunctions and perform appropriate repairs to equipment; perform troubleshooting and preventive maintenance as necessary.
Maintains inventory of loaner equipment including check-out, return, cleaning and routine maintenance.
Assist with media conversion projects and other projects as assigned.
Ability to move equipment up to 50 lbs short distances.
1. Provides basic instruction and assistance for faculty, students and professional staff in the use of audio-visual equipment. 2. Executes audio-visual service requests for classroom and event support. 3. Provides front-line technical support services, including the set-up, operation and troubleshooting of audio-visual equipment. 4. Provides operational support and maintenance of audio-visual equipment, which includes but is not limited to digital projectors, plasma screens, computers, public address systems, audio recorders, audio mixers, amplifiers, DVD/VHS players, document cameras, 16mm film projectors, slide projectors, microphones, projection screens, control systems and video switchers. 5. Provides daily support services for assigned classroom zone (approximately 35 classrooms) and serves as the initial point of contact for reporting and resolving problems in these classrooms. 6. Escalates support issues within Media Services to ensure timely solutions. 7. Documents service requests and problem reports for departmental databases. 8. Maintains equipment inventory for assigned classroom zone including records of maintenance and repair. 9. Tests and maintains audio-visual rental equipment. 10. Performs scheduled preventative maintenance, cleaning and repair of audio-visual equipment. 11. Performs component level replacement as needed. 12. Maintains appropriate inventory of supplies and equipment in assigned distributed storage facilities 13. May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level and a high school level education; or four years of related work experience and an Associate degree; or little or no work experience and a Bachelor degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Demonstrated proficiency with video production, including Point Tilt Zoom camera operation as well as all types of microphones and their proper utilization, mixers, acoustics, Crestron control systems, and AV over IP infrastructure.
Required Skill/Ability 4:
Demonstrated proficiency with video conference software Zoom, and digital media production software such as Adobe Premier. Ability to utilize Canvas LMS and Panopto.
Required Skill/Ability 5:
Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills. Ability and willingness to learn new skills as necessary to meet the evolving media technology needs of the school.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
Experience with Windows OS and macOS. Intermediate proficiency with MS PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
Ability to move equipment up to 50 lbs for short distances.
