DIVERSITY, EQUITY, INCLUSION, AND JUSTICE (DEIJ) PROGRAM OFFICERBrain and Cognitive Sciences (BCS), to implement and shape DEIJ efforts within BCS, the McGovern Institute, and the Picower Institute. Will work with the associate department head for DEIJ and internal/external partners to design and implement tools and resources to grow the DEIJ culture in the department, especially to support Black and indigenous people of color.  Responsibilities include supporting BCS’s efforts to impact the pipeline through expanding the existing postbaccalaureate Research Scholars Program and other planned outreach efforts; represent issues affecting DEIJ culture at departmental and MIT meetings/events; collaborate with leadership and staff to address community concerns and support community town halls; help coach/advise faculty and staff through conversations, workshops and other learning opportunities to foster an equitable, inclusive culture; and help evaluate departmental progress by tracking qualitative and quantitative data related to its goals.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree; five years’ experience with diversity and inclusion planning development and implementation; demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; understanding of social justice, the dynamics of power and privilege, and social identities; ability to work effectively within a diverse workforce and affect change by applying best practices, influencing skills, and research-based solutions; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to establish rapport and credibility with senior leaders and a wide range of constituencies in a culturally diverse environment; strong consultation, presentation, meeting design, and facilitation skills; experience designing, delivering, and evaluating diversity and inclusion learning programs/resources; ability to collaborate and work in a team-oriented environment; experience with successful change management and project management. PREFERREDfamiliarity with STEM and/or the content domains represented by the department (neuroscience, psychology, computation, etc.). Job #19171-8
