Job Description Summary

Perform research experiments using advanced microscope system with laser tweezers.

Job Description

Duties:

Research Specialist B:

  • Maintain and update computer and other electronic devices.
  • Write new computer programs and manage exiting ones.
  • Manage updates and repairs of the custom-designed laser tweezers and other equipment.
  • Conduct optical trapping experiments using ultrafast force clamp.
  • Train and provide ongoing support for users.
  • Write scientific reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Research Specialist C:

  • Conduct single molecule experiments using TIRF microscope.
  • Purify recombinant proteins.
  • Design and plan experiments.
  • Design and write protocols.
  • Analyze data and write lab reports.
  • Present data at conferences and meetings.
  • Prepare scientific reports and manuscript submissions.
  • Maintain and update computer and other electronic devices.
  • Write new computer programs and manage exiting ones.
  • Manage updates and repairs of the custom-designed laser tweezers and other equipment.
  • Conduct optical trapping experiments using ultrafast force clamp.
  • Train and provide ongoing support for users.
  • Write scientific reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

This position is contingent on grant funding.

Qualifications:

Research Specialist B:

Bachelor’s Degree in Biophysics, Physics or Engineering and 1-3 years previous laboratory experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Master Degree preferred. Experience with optical systems, electronics and microscopy, proficiency with LabView and MatLab software preferred. Must be able to work independently and communicate effectively with other lab members, including skills in oral presentations and scientific writing.

Research Specialist C:

Bachelor’s Degree in Biophysics, Physics or Engineering and 3-5 years previous laboratory experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Master Degree preferred. Extensive experience with advanced microscopy systems and instrumentation is required. Additional expertise in molecular biology and biochemistry is a major plus. Must have strong organizational skills and ability to communicate effectively with other lab members.
