DIRECTOR, UTILITIESFacilities-Utilities, to be responsible for the operation of the Institute’s central utility plant and campus utility distribution systems and for the implementation of utility-related projects (including over $275M in current projects) that support the MIT2030 Capital Plan. Will focus on the global picture and direction with an understanding of and attention to the everyday details and utility operations throughout the campus; provide overall direction for the Facilities Department’s utility groups; and act as a sounding board and mentor to help managers effectively manage to each individual and their team.  Will report to the VP of campus services and stewardship.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  a B.S. in engineering, preferably mechanical or electrical; at least five year’s executive-level management experience in utility design, construction, or operations; at least fifteen years of engineering experience and hands-on technical experience in mechanical, electrical, and operations with utility systems; experience with large capital project initiatives and smaller renovation and campus renewal activities; short- and long-term campus master planning, engineering, and architectural experience; experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams; ability to foster a positive work environment, develop relationships across the Institute, and lead a group of engineers and other staff; excellent interpersonal skills; financial acumen and ability to understand complex budgets and contractual agreements; meticulous attention to detail; a data-driven approach to work; and a desire to learn and improve the Utilities Department. PREFERRED:  registration as a professional engineer (PE) in the state of Massachusetts, advanced degree, and experience leading a unionized workforce  Job #18865-14
