The School of Arts, English and Languages seeks to appoint an exceptional individual to join us as a Lecturer (Education) in Irish and Celtic Studies. The successful candidate will be expected to undertake teaching and supervision at undergraduate and postgraduate level, undertake scholarly activities, and contribute to School management, administration and outreach.

The successful candidate must have:

• A primary degree in Irish or cognate discipline
• Hold or be about to complete a PhD in any area linked to Modern Irish Language and Literature
• Evidence of engagement in scholarly activities
• Evidence of experience of teaching Irish at tertiary level
• Ability to design, develop and deliver new modules which add to the current Irish curriculum
• Ability to design course materials and to plan and organise the delivery and assessment of taught courses in Irish
• Ability to convene modules at UG level

Irish and Celtic Studies at Queen’s University Belfast is part of a vibrant research area that is internationally recognised as a centre of excellence in the languages, literatures, histories, linguistics, visual cultures and cultural identities of Europe and beyond. Staff are involved in cutting-edge research across all periods of the Irish language, including aspects of sociolinguistics, historical linguistics and onomastics. Irish and Celtic Studies also has a strong interdisciplinary focus involving collaborations with colleagues in History, English, Politics, Creative Arts and Education, and the Languages section of the School of Arts, English and Languages. The emphasis in its undergraduate programmes is on Modern Irish language, literature, and culture (and these programmes include modules on Irish-language film, translation, and modern literature). There are opportunities also to study some early Irish literature and Scottish Gaelic.
