The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is a government-funded tertiary institution in Hong Kong.  It offers programmes at various levels including Doctorate, Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees.  It has a full-time academic staff strength of around 1,200.  The total annual consolidated expenditure budget of the University is in excess of HK$7.4 billion. 

INTERDISCIPLINARY DIVISION OF AERONAUTICAL AND AVIATION ENGINEERING

Research Assistant Professor in Aerospace Propulsion and Combustion / Flight Mechanics and Control (two posts) (Ref. 20121108)

In line with the strategic development of the University and to lead the development of the aeronautical and aviation engineering discipline in teaching and research activities, the Interdisciplinary Division of Aeronautical and Aviation Engineering was established in the Faculty of Engineering in July 2016. The Division currently offers two degree programmes including the 2-year full-time top-up BEng (Hons) in Air Transport Engineering and the 4-year full-time BEng (Hons) in Aviation Engineering. Applications are now invited from academics/industrial practitioners who are actively involved in aviation engineering to fill the vacancies for academic staff.

Duties

The appointees will be required to:

(a) conduct research as the main duty and actively pursue external research grants, such as General Research Fund, as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator;

(b) provide quality teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level;

(c) contribute to departmental service;

(d) and perform any other duties as assigned by the Interim Head of Division or his delegates.

Qualifications  

Applicants should:

(a) have a PhD in relevant disciplines;

(b) have relevant post-qualification experience and a good track record of research in the areas of aerospace propulsion and combustion or flight mechanics and control;

(c) have demonstrated promise of a high level of creative ability in research and teaching in some subdivisions of his/her field;  

(d) be able to demonstrate effective classroom teaching skills; and

(e) be highly proficient in written and spoken English.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Appointments will only be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Applicants should state their current and expected salary in the application.
