About the opportunity 

The Sydney School of Veterinary Science (SSVS) is ranked 1st in the Southern Hemisphere and 12th in the world in the QS World University Subject Rankings 2020, and rated 5/5 for research in the Australian Government’s 2018 Excellence in Research for Australia rankings.

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding senior academic as Clinical Professor or Associate Professor in Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging, to provide academic and service leadership within veterinary diagnostic imaging in the SSVS. The role provides high quality teaching to Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) students across both the University Veterinary Teaching Hospitals (UVTH) at Sydney and Camden, and mentors discipline members in research and teaching.

The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of various aspects of clinical diagnostic services and participate in on call and after-hours attendance in UVTH’s on a rotating roster as required. The position works closely with the Unit heads and the Hospital Executive teams to create a cohesive and respected service delivering excellence in teaching, research and clinical care.

You must be a leading authority within veterinary imaging and have an international reputation for excellence. You will be expected to contribute to the leadership and strategic direction of the University by participating in collegial governance and decision-making and foster a culture of excellence through guiding academic staff and students towards success. 

About us 

SSVS is home to over 68 academic and 126 dedicated professional staff committed to ensuring the highest quality experience and outcomes for our DVM and research students. We employ a multidisciplinary and collaborative approach to research, which in turn, informs our teaching. Our community of approximately 480 veterinary students and 100 higher degree by research students are enabled to develop their skills in inquiry, evidence-based medicine and innovation.

Our school operates across two campuses, Camperdown (inner-city) and Camden (urban) and has three teaching hospital facilities that provide unique learning experiences and research opportunities. The school also provides diagnostic services for clinicians and researchers using state of the art equipment. Collaborative opportunities with University Core Facilities (Sydney Imaging), Brain and Mind Centre, Charles Perkins Centre and other disciplines within the University are highly encouraged and expected of a discipline leader. Working with external partners such as National Imaging Facility provides access to state-of-the-art imaging capabilities.

Term and remuneration

The successful applicant will be offered a full-time continuing position, subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation and confirmation period for new appointees.
