POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, REACTOR PHYSICS MODELING, Nuclear Reactor Laboratory, to join a research program that is carrying out several research projects including highly enriched uranium fuel and LEU fuel mixed core transition cycles study, reactor safety analysis, and impact assessment of fuel fabrication specifications. Responsibilities include reactor modeling and safety analysis in collaboration with MIT team members and external stakeholders such as Department of Energy, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and national laboratories. 

The MIT Research Reactor (MITR) is the primary experimental facility of the Nuclear Reactor Laboratory and one of five U.S. high performance research reactors.  The MITR will lead the demonstration of an innovative high-density U-10Mo low enrichment uranium (LEU) fuel design to meet the global non-proliferation and reactor performance goals. 

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  a Ph.D. degree in nuclear engineering, physics, or another related field; in-depth knowledge of nuclear reactor physics and associated computational methods; experience with stochastic neutronics codes (e.g., MCNP, Serpent, etc.); programming experience, including with scripting languages; self-motivation; experience with uncertainty quantification tool kits, burnup/depletion analysis and machine-learning algorithm; meticulous attention to detail; and the ability to work effectively both as a team member and independently and to keep to schedules and deadlines. This position is expected to start from May 2020 and is subject to a one-year term with possible renewal on annual basis.
