Job Description Summary

Plans and conducts complex experiments to meet research project objectives. Performs laboratory experiments and clinical studies for product or material formulation and development. Oversee overall management of laboratory tool, documentations and processes to ensure regulatory compliance and timely completion of project/program deliverables. Closely collaborates with content experts to select assessment instruments. adapt existing instruments and develop new instruments and with Principal Investigator (PI) on experimental/clinical work set ups in accordance to established protocols. Responsible for team performance management and reviews

Supports the research of the PI aiming to decrease the global burden of glaucomatous optic neuropathy using murine models of ocular hypertension as well as mitochondrially transformed cultures of human cell lines.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree with 3-5 years of related experience in research, clinical study, project and people management or equivalent combination of education and experience is required

Working Conditions
Office, Library, Computer Room; Requires extensive safety

Physical Effort
Typically sitting at a desk or table; Occasional lifting 25 lb. or less

Generate and maintain mouse models of open angle glaucoma including long term maintenance of a mouse colony; conduct visual functional testing (e.g. optokinetic response and pattern ERG).  The PI will train the successful applicant in methods of model generation;

Dissect, process, mount/embed, cryosection and immunohistochemical staining of relevant ocular specimens and tissues; imagining and subsequent analysis of stained tissues; image capturing with microscope including live imagining microscopes

Isolation of protein, RNA, and DNA from cultured cells and isolated murine ocular tissues with  standard methods for western blot, PCR, and ELISA assays;

Statistical and image analyses with various programs including Prism; Image J; Adobe Photoshop and  Illustrator; Microsoft Excel; and generating presentation slides using Microsoft PowerPoint;

Orient, train and oversee any new laboratory members and summer/year-out students rotating through the laboratory;

General laboratory organization including ordering reagents, preparation of media and solutions, maintain laboratory logs, inventories of freezer stocks, general laboratory equipment and maintenance; following all compliance procedures and completing all necessary associated forms;

Other duties as assigned.
