Job description
Renaissance Skin is a five-year Wellcome Trust funded project, led by Evelyn Welch (PI). The project seeks a Research Assistant (Grade 5.25 0.6FTE) to assist Professor Welch in the final stages of completing the key publications and outputs of the Wellcome Trust grant. The purpose of the role is to carry out editorial support and research at the direction of the PI and Co-I, check and complete translations, check and acquire references, assist in obtaining image permissions, and carry out light copy-editing. The role-holder will work closely with Prof Evelyn Welch, and with the remaining Renaissance Skin team - Hannah Murphy (Co-Investigator) and Becca Taite (Project Manager).

The ideal candidate for this position is someone with substantial research experience, at PhD level or beyond. We seek someone who is competent and comfortable with a wide range of sources (archival, manuscript, visual and material etc.). Preference will be given to candidates who have one or more of the following languages: Italian, German, Spanish, French. The successful candidate will join the Renaissance Skin team for the remainder of the project, taking part in weekly meetings, and in seminars and conferences at their discretion. They will have the opportunity to carry out individual research, contribute blog posts, and, depending on their career stage, to benefit from mentoring and collaborative research work.
This job is available at 0.6FTE, candidates who wish to hold it for a lesser percentage are welcome to discuss arrangements. This is a fixed duration post until the end of the project in June 2022. Questions about the role may be addressed to Dr. Hannah Murphy, hannah.murphy@kcl.ac.uk.

This is a 60% FTE fixed term contract for 17 months.

Key responsibilities

  • Carry out bibliographic and archival research in archives and libraries, at the direction of the project PI and Co-I
  • Editorial corrections, support such as checking citations, support for footnotes
  • Obtain image permissions, and take part in the formal book submission process
  • Carry out copy-editing and formatting.
  • Collaborate on team research and participate in project activities

The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.
