The Future Ready Food Safety Hub (FRESH) serves as Singapore’s lead scientific platform under the Singapore Food Story R&D Programme, to bring together researchers, regulators and industry to build up Singapore’s food safety science and R&D capabilities to secure Singapore’s food supply and economic value proposition. FRESH will embark on R&D and talent development activities to help enhance Singapore’s local food regulatory capabilities and allow “first-in-market” food products to be safely launched in Singapore, as well as help promote Singapore-developed food standards internationally. FRESH is part of the Singapore Food Story R&D Programme (SFS), with partner organisations being the Singapore Food Agency (SFA), A*STAR and the Nanyang Technological University (NTU).

FRESH invites applications for the position of Senior Research Fellow (Exposure Scientist).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Aid the Director in forwarding the mission and vision of FRESH by providing expert input on emerging areas of food safety and identifying strategic research opportunities in the field of exposure science
  • Lead projects focused on the development of scientific solutions and tools to improve the intake assessment of food ingredients and contaminants as identified by the food industry and government with an emphasis on South East Asia
  • Support efforts to develop a national total diet study for Singapore
  • Research work should be directed towards translational science and directed outputs that strengthen and support Singapore’s efforts to enhance food security and ensure a continued, high level of safety, in support of the Singapore Food Story (SFS) R&D programme

Job Requirements:

  • PhD in a relevant discipline such as exposure science, food safety and food risk assessment, and have at least 5 years postdoctoral experience in an academic or industrial research setting
  • Direct experience in conducting exposure assessments for food safety approval and risk assessment is preferred
  • Experience working with government and industry organisations to validate and harmonise exposure methods is an asset
  • Have a general understanding of the commercial and regulatory environment of the Singapore food industry, the ability to network with government and industry, as well as maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Have a strong track record of scientific achievements, acquired either in the private or public sectors, or in academia, which should also include funding from national and international agencies
  • Comfortable with a role that crosses academic, industry and regulatory thinking
  • Experience in developing product and consumption databases and/or have experience combining analytical chemistry approaches with exposure modelling

The Fellowship will be awarded concurrently with the candidate's appointment as a research staff in NTU.

Eligibility: 

• Excellent academic records and research potential.
• Recent PhD graduates, or with at most 1 postdoctoral training from a reputable university. 

Terms and Conditions: 
• The Fellowship will be tenable for a period of 3 years.  
• In addition to an attractive remuneration, the successful candidate will be awarded a research grant of S$180,000 for research consumables and research related expenditure.
