Job Description Summary

The Research Investigator Sr (SRI) will act in a leadership role, overseeing and designing advanced experiments. He/She will assist the Principal Investigator and play a leading role in developing a research program in the advancement of specific area of study and will play a crucial role both in all aspects of research products including development, implementation, and data analysis. In the development stage, the SRI will assess proposed projects by conducting feasibility studies to provide valuable input regarding viability, efficiency, timeline, and study design. In the implementation stage, he/she will supervise and perform the project. This includes overseeing workflow and productivity of lab personnel and providing training to them on specific techniques as necessary. Finally, the SRI will be responsible for data analysis, preparation of manuscripts, and presenting research findings through various forums. Senior Research Investigator must demonstrate the ability to analyze and present data in professional "publication ready" format and to be able to independently prepare manuscripts and grant writings for submission.

This is a senior research position where the individual carries out translational research on inherited retinal degenerations in Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) fashion so that the research can lead to human clinical trials. The position calls for independent research, with feedback from Jean Bennett, other members of the team, and the sponsors (generally pharmaceutical companies). The individual supervises a team of scientists and designs, carries out, trouble shoots, interprets the data, obtains regulatory approvals, writes up the results, and participates in meetings with the sponsor and the FDA.

This position is contingent upon funding.

Qualifications

Highly advanced professional discipline. M.D., Ph. D., or equivalent doctoral degree and 5 years of experience is required

Typically standing or walking; Intermittently sitting/standing/stooping Draft Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) for GLP (Good Laboratory Practices); Design and Carry out experiments independently following Standard Operating Procedures; Carry out trouble-shooting on experiments when necessary; Record, analyze and interpret data and plan next steps; Write reports for Pharmaceutical Sponsors and manuscripts describing research results; Obtain regulatory approvals for experiments; Maintain records of experiments; Oversee work of junior laboratory members, including training on issues relevant to GLP-like studies (such as SOPs, maintenance of supplies); Prepare for and participate in meetings with Sponsors and FDA.
