DEPARTMENT OF APPLIED BIOLOGY AND CHEMICAL TECHNOLOGY

Assistant Professor in Inorganic Chemistry / Organometallic Chemistry / Materials Chemistry (Ref. 20112018)

The Department of Applied Biology and Chemical Technology is a multi-disciplinary department in The Hong Kong Polytechnic University with diversified specialties in biology, biotechnology, chemistry, biochemistry, nutrition and food science.  The Department’s research focus is in the interdisciplinary areas of chemistry, biology, nutrition and food science.  The Department has about 52 faculty members.  Please visit the website at http://www.polyu.edu.hk/abct for more information about the Department.

Duties

The appointee will be required to:

(a)     conduct lectures, practical sessions and tutorials at taught master’s and undergraduate levels in Inorganic Chemistry, Organometallic Chemistry, Materials Chemistry, Renewable Energy, and/or related disciplines;
    
(b)     supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students;

(c)     establish a vigorous research programme at the cutting edge of inorganic synthesis, organometallic synthesis, materials chemistry, renewable energy, and engage in other scholarly activities;
 
(e)    contribute to departmental and programme administration as well as curriculum development; and

(f)    perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department or his/her delegates.

Qualifications

Applicants should:
(a)    have a PhD degree in the field of Inorganic Chemistry, Organometallic Chemistry, Materials Chemistry, Renewable Energy, or related disciplines;

(b)    have relevant post-qualification experience in teaching and research;

(c)    have an excellent publication record in peer-reviewed international journals, especially in the areas of inorganic synthesis, organometallic synthesis, materials chemistry and/or renewable energy;

(d)    have an established track record in obtaining external funding/research grants; and

(e)    be able to demonstrate evidence of effective classroom teaching.

Preference will be given to those who have an undergraduate degree in Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Materials Chemistry, or related disciplines.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Appointment will only be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Applicants should state their current and expected salary in the application.
