Job Description Summary

Dr. Arndt Siekmann’s laboratory in Department of Cell & Developmental Biology is seeking a motivated individual to fill a Research Specialist A/B Position. The Siekmann lab is focused on understanding the processes that are important for the proper formation of the cardiovascular system, working with zebrafish and cells in culture. Position contingent upon funding.

Job Description

The Research Specialist will work closely with scientists in the lab on conducting goal-oriented experiments. Additional responsibilities include general laboratory upkeep (making solutions, assist in the care and maintenance of zebrafish strains, ordering supplies and maintaining lab stocks, maintaining lab documentation, ordering supplies, etc.)The position requires proficiency in basic molecular cloning techniques (PCR, plasmid cloning, etc.), and/or experience using confocal microscopy, preparing DNA samples and running PCR reactions and gel electrophoresis.

Experiments will be designed by the Principal Investigator or senior lab personnel, but the Research Specialist A/B is expected to modify/troubleshoot procedures, assist in planning the protocol, and report progress to the PI. The Research Specialist A/B will also keep accurate notebooks, perform data analysis and assist in publication preparation. The person should be able to work independently.

Research Specialist A – Bachelor’s degree in Biology/Biochemistry/Molecular Biology and 0 to 1 year of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Research Specialist B – Bachelor’s degree in Biology/Biochemistry/Molecular Biology and 1 to 3 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Both positions:

Experience in molecular biology and cell biology required.
