East Midlands Chamber of Commerce and De Montfort University are working together on a Knowledge Transfer Partnership project to create a new Business Research & Intelligence Unit for the East Midlands region. This will help East Midlands businesses and communities achieve longer-term economic growth by informing investment and policy decisions with reliable intelligence, enabled by innovative Artificial Intelligence tools.

About the KTP

This position is part of the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) funded by Innovate UK and Economic & Social Research Council. The KTP Associate will work within EMC to embed new know-how through this innovative project, with research and academic support from the University knowledge base. The Role

The Associate will take lead responsibility for working with the partners to apply knowledge and expertise into creating and developing the new Regional Business Intelligence Unit within EMC. This will provide data-led intelligence to meet the requirements of businesses & policymakers. The project is expected to increase economic investment and recovery; and to create a new intelligence-led business activity for the Chamber.

Ideal candidate

To be successful you will hold a first degree with a 2.1 or higher, likely to be in a mainly quantitative discipline such as Economics, Management Science, Operations Research or Computer Science.

Economic & Business data analysis - handling & analysing large & complex economic, business or comparable datasets. Understanding and applying economic, industrial, geographic & policy frameworks. Experience of undertaking & writing-up independent research (such as a dissertation project). Applying Artificial Intelligence Applications to Business data: interest in exploring AI & deep learning applications. Specialist AI expertise is not necessary. Working with Businesses & policymakers in a fast-changing environment, able to develop professional relationships across academic, public & private sector organisations.

Effective communication skills; presenting complex information for business & policy audiences. Intelligence-led business development: acumen for business development & innovation opportunities. Work experience through a placement or employment in a field such as business analysis, government data, computing applications is desirable.

Ability to work successfully on their own initiative and within a small team environment. Willingness to engage in activity outside their usual comfort zone. Ability to think creatively and introduce new approaches. An eye for opportunity, openness to innovation and intelligence-led business opportunities.
