DEPARTMENT OF CHINESE CULTURE
Chair Professor / Professor / Associate Professor in Chinese Culture (Ref. 20111604)
The Department of Chinese Culture is an academic department within the Faculty of Humanities. Its mission is to offer high-quality teaching and research programmes at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the areas of Chinese Classics, Literature, History, Philosophy, Religion and Arts. Currently, the Department offers PhD and MPhil programmes, a taught-master degree programme, a major degree programme in Bilingual Interdisciplinary Chinese Studies, a minor degree programme in Chinese Culture, and university-wide general education courses. Duties
The appointee will be required to:
(a) engage in active teaching in various areas of Chinese Culture and undertake related pedagogical activities at undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
(b) engage in programme/curriculum design and development, consultancy projects and other scholarly activities that help promote the department’s mission and vision;
(c) undertake scholarly research in his/her area of expertise and play an exemplary role in scholarly activities (especially for those appointed at the Chair Professor level);
(d) provide administrative support and advice for academic and departmental affairs;
(e) render service to committee work of all levels in the University as well as to the scholarly community; and
(f) perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department or his/her delegates.
An appointee at Chair Professor / Professor levels will be expected to provide academic leadership in his/her area of expertise.
Qualifications
Applicants should have:
(a) a PhD degree in a relevant discipline;
(b) a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and learning;
(c) substantial years of relevant teaching and/or research experience in an international context;
(d) a strong record of research activities and output as well as a concrete plan for continuing development in his/her area(s) of specialization; and
(e) an excellent command of both English and Chinese.
Candidates with academic standing not commensurate with the rank of Chair Professor / Professor will be considered for appointment at the level of Associate Professor.
