  • Remuneration at Academic Level B ($98,569 - $116,965) or Academic Level C ($120,657 - $139,129) + 17% superannuation

About You & the Role

  • Perform high-impact engineering research and development activities, generating novel design concepts and managing IP/security protection activities to meet the requirements of research projects objectives
  • Carry out one-dimensional cycle analysis of novel propulsion concepts using Python and conduct parametric analysis of flight system configurations
  • Contribute to the validation of concept performance through conducting simplified CFD simulations of configurations
  • Support and conduct research & analysis of trajectory modelling using 3DOF
  • Be actively involved in the project management of the research as well as contribute and deliver impactful research outcomes & reports that are relevant to the funding body
  • Prepare and publish high quality articles in high impact journals in line RMITs intellectual property obligations set out in the primary contract for the projects
  • Contribute 10% of your time to mentor & supervise postgraduate students and participate in learning program activities appropriate to areas of expertise as well as administrative functions related to the research project

You will have:

  • Evidence of high-quality academic and/or research laboratory experience and skills in analytical compressible fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, propulsion system cycle analysis, combustion and Computational Fluid Dynamics
  • Strong proficiency and capability to write code in Python to numerically solve complex scientific problems
  • Proven hands-on experience and record in conducting research in solid rocket, liquid rocket or airbreathing propulsion system cycle analyses, 3DOF simulations and the use of Cantera for combustion modeling will be highly regarded
  • An emerging track records in publishing high-quality journal articles and conferences, and/or research project reports, in research areas relevant to this area
  • Ability to communicate (both verbal and written) research concepts and knowledge through demonstrated high-quality technical reports and presentational skills
  • High-level of focus, as well as strong organisational and analytical skills, equipped with ability to identify ways to perform experimental procedures successfully within a team environment in collaboration with industry and/or other relevant stakeholders
  • Experience in co-supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students with ability to teach and/or mentor in the relevant areas of expertise

Qualifications

Mandatory: PhD qualified in the field Aerospace Engineering or in a closely related subject in Aerospace Engineering & Aviation domain.

Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children check.
