A Research Associate position is currently available in the Nanyang Environment & Water Research Institute - Advanced Environmental Biotechnology Centre (NEWRI-AEBC).

Job Responsibilities

• Develop, validate, and implement methods for detection and quantification of human pathogens in wastewater
• Support research work on wastewater-based epidemiology and laboratory techniques – (sewage sample preparation, nucleic acid extraction, reagent preparation, environmental/biochemical assays, etc.)
• Provide expertise on molecular biology for WBE analysis
• Work synergistically with PI and Co-Is in experimental designs, conducting experiments, troubleshooting and data analysis
• Design the sampling protocols and analytical methods applicable for different types analysis proposed
• Design, conduct and troubleshoot experiments in the laboratory
• Provide training to research associate/assistant on the relevant skills for the proposed project

Job Requirements

• Master Degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Environmental & Water Technology or other related science/life science disciplines
• Knowledge and experience on operation, data analysis, sample preparation for molecular biology (e.g. PCR, ELISA, analytical instruments (e.g. HPLC, GC, FTIR, GC-MS, IC, ICP-OES, ICP-MS or some of these) is highly preferred
• Knowledge of sample preparation and method development is a plus
• Highly motivated person who is able to work independently
• Good communication skills & team player
• Interest in research work
• Highly driven, independent and resourceful
