At TU Dresden, Faculty of Chemistry and Food Chemistry the Chair of Radiochemistry/Radioecology invites applications for a project position as

Research Associate/PostDoc material science

(Subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

starting as soon as possible. The position is limited until August 31, 2023. The period of employment is governed by § 2 (2) Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). Your work place is located at Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR).

Tasks:

Your working tasks belong to the field of the identification of mechanical properties of neutron irradiated and unirradiated steels, in particular:

  • design of experiments on irradiation behaviour of steels (thermal annealing, mechanical testing, characterization of microstructure),
  • analysis of annealing experiments and development of models on the correlation of irradiation induced defects and mechanical properties
  • further development of a database for irradiated structural materials
  • participation in the management of the third-party funded project
  • elaboration of reports and publications.

Requirements:

  • university degree (Master) and, if applicable, PhD in engineering materials science or solid-state physics with a very good overall grade
  • experience in mechanical testing and characterization of the microstructure of metallic materials
  • active communication with team members and highly proactive attitude
  • excellent command of spoken and written English (grade B2 or higher)
  • ability for publication of scientific results
  • Knowledge in the application of software for data acquisition, programming skills are advantageous.
