The Australian Institute of Management and Commerce (IMC) is seeking suitably qualified and self-motivated applicants for a mix of full-time and sessional positions in the information and communications technology (ICT) field. Full-time appointments can be at the Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level. Sessional appointments will be at the Lecturer level. The level of appointment will depend upon qualifications, experience and demonstrated potential to be a leader and communicator in the ICT field.

IMC is currently delivering innovative management and commerce programs which include elements of ICT. In 2021, IMC is planning to extend its range and depth of courses with ICT content by offering postgraduate studies in Business and Data Analytics, and Cybersecurity. Appointees will be expected to teach within these courses and maintain contemporary knowledge through a program of research and/or discipline-based scholarship.

With teaching expected to include a significant online component, appointees will need excellent presentation and English language skills to deliver content to face-to-face and online students. As these positions are teaching-intensive within a digitally delivered education environment, IMC is seeking ICT academics and/or professionals with an engaging presentation style. 

Key responsibilities

Contribute to curriculum development in the ICT field at postgraduate level, especially in the areas of Business and Data Analytics, and Cybersecurity and closely related fields. Prepare and deliver lectures to face-to-face classes and online students using digital delivery modes, and coordinate unitstaught. Use discipline expertise to moderate and continuously improve learning materials, assessments and exams in units taught. Connect and engage with industry partners and the wider business community regarding capstone projects, career opportunities and seminardiscussions. Apply knowledge of the HESF Threshold Standards, the Australian Qualifications Framework and the core knowledge requirements of professional bodies in the ICT field to ensure compliance of degree programs.

Selection criteria

A doctoral qualification is required, preferably earned within the ICT field. A doctoral qualification earned within an interdisciplinary field combining ICT with Computer Science or Engineering, for example, is acceptable. Have industry recognised expertise within the ICT field that demonstrates a sound practical and contemporary knowledge of ICT hardware, software and associated products. Demonstrated ability to teach using multimedia technology together with an engaging presentation style. A video-recorded lecture or presentation submitted with an application will assist IMC’s selection process. Experience in advising and managing a diverse range of students, with evidence of excellence in teaching international students and mature age students being highly regarded. Demonstrated high standards in verbal and written English communications, together with strong interpersonal skills. The successful applicant must hold Australian working rights.

A curriculum vitae showing qualifications, academic achievements and employment history. A written statement explaining motivations and capacity to carry out the specified role. Evidence of teaching using multimedia technology (e.g. a video-recorded lecture).

Applicants will be required to nominate two referees after a successful interview.

Appointment level

The full-time appointments can be at Academic Level B (Lecturer) or Level C (Senior Lecturer) depending upon qualifications andexperience. Sessional appointments are usually at Academic Level B (Lecturer). All appointments are by fixed-term contract.
