Position Focus:

The Associate Director is anticipated to be responsible for leadership and staff development programs for approximately 2,200 clinical faculty and clinical professionals, 1,500 C&T staff and 1,100 M&P staff within the Yale School of Medicine. This position is responsible for developing the strategic roadmap and executing the development and delivery of such programs as new employee orientation, team development, leading teams, coaching, and conflict management to name a few. This position is also responsible for partnering with Human Resources to deliver appropriate training to transition the Yale Medicine workforce to Post-Covid19 specific behaviors and operations requirements including work from home policies/procedures, leading and managing remote teams, and change management. This position will direct and lead a team of leadership and staff development consultants, and other cross-functional training resources who deliver employee engagement and staff development programs in the ambulatory areas within and supporting the YM organization.

Essential Duties

1. Directs, monitors, and assesses needs and directs the application of resources of an administrative University office dealing with one or more major functional areas. 2. Directs and implements solutions to problems that are routine to complex in nature and that affect multiple functional areas of responsibility. 3. Plans and/or participates in planning University activities on a long-term basis to comply with University goals and objectives. 4. Establishes and implements consistent university-wide policies in multiple functional areas of responsibility. 5. Ensures that University office policies and procedures are in compliance with federal, state, and local laws and ordinances. 6. Develops and monitors goals and objectives for managerial and professional staff in compliance with University strategies. 7. Directs a staff of exempt and non-exempt employees. 8. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in related field and seven years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Ability to supervise and manage cross-functional teams, and direct reports on a daily basis.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Ability to direct, delegate and work with leadership, a staff development team, managers and business unit leaders on enterprise level initiatives and projects.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Ability to strategically develop and design in-person, virtual, and blended learning programs using a variety of instructional design principles to capture a wide range of learning styles.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Strong attention to detail and outstanding self-initiative, personal accountability, and follow through.

Required Skill/Ability 5:

Well-developed verbal, written, presentation, facilitation and communication skills with the proven ability to deliver exceptional service to all internal and external customers.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Master’s degree in adult education, instructional design, organizational development, human resources, or related field.​ Experience managing technical trainers. Certifications in coaching, multi-rater assessment tools, and other leadership / learning philosophies. Previous experience working in hospital and healthcare environments.
