Applications are invited for appointment as Post-doctoral Fellow in Theoretical and Computational Astrophysics in the Department of Physics (Ref.: 502443) to commence in the fall of 2021 or earlier for up to three years, with the possibility of renewal subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Physics, Astronomy or a related area.  They should have interests in areas broadly related to astrophysics around black holes or transients.  Those who are expected to complete a Ph.D. degree before fall 2021 will also be considered.  The appointee will join the group of Dr. Jane Lixin Dai to collaborate on various projects, including but not limited to tidal disruption events, GR simulations of black hole accretion disks and jets, GR ray-tracing around black holes, X-ray reverberation, AGN outflows and feedback.  He/She will conduct original research in theoretical and computational astrophysics and spend up to 50% of the time on independent projects.  The University of Hong Kong has a large group of astronomers and astrophysicists working on black holes, pulsars, transients, galaxies, dark matter, star formation, supernova remnant, planets, X-ray and radio astronomy, etc.  Enquiries about the post should be sent to Dr. Jane Dai at lixindai@hku.hk.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.
