Educational Development Officer (Quality Enhancement) (Ref. 18013004-E2)

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is a government-funded tertiary institution in Hong Kong.  It offers programmes at various levels including Doctorate, Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees.  It has a full-time academic staff strength of around 1,400.  The total annual consolidated expenditure budget of the University is in excess of HK$7.5 billion.
The mission of the Educational Development Centre is to enhance the quality of teaching and learning at the University and support the University’s strategic initiatives in nurturing the development of all-round students with excellent professional competence. The Centre offers a variety of services, including short courses and workshops on teaching and learning, individual consultations, support for student learning outcomes assessment, teaching evaluation services, and activities which promote and support the use of educational technologies to enhance student learning. The appointee will be appointed at the substantive level of Educational Development Officer and will be required to:
(a)    conduct reviews on current practice and contribute to discussions pertaining to the University’s strategic development in quality enhancement, and support the dissemination of the relevant policies through workshops, consultation and other means as appropriate;
(b)    provide professional support in the development of learning outcome assessment measures and the analysis and reporting of outcome data, and provide training and consultation to individual teachers and departments on outcome assessment strategies;
(c)    provide professional input to support the University’s engagement in external quality audits, including preparing the institutional submission, follow-up action plan and progress report, making arrangements for the audit visit, and engaging stakeholders in the process;
(d)    provide professional input to the implementation of institutional initiatives on teaching and learning, and, where appropriate, take part in institutional projects and serve on relevant working groups;
(e)    engage in educational and/or higher education research and contribute to the University-wide teaching development programme of workshops and seminars; and
(f)    perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of Educational Development or her delegates.
Applicants should have:
(a)    a master’s degree in Education or a related field;
(b)    a minimum of eight years of experience in supporting quality enhancement at university level;
(c)    experience in supporting quality enhancement at university level, as demonstrated by substantive involvement in any of the following or equivalent activities:

(i)     policy development pertaining to institution-wide quality enhancement;
(ii)     projects to develop a quality culture at institutional/departmental level;
(iii)     initiatives to improve quality assurance processes;
(iv)     external quality audits and/or accreditation exercises; and
(v)     quality assurance of academic programmes.
(d)    experience in conducting outcome assessment and/or implementation analysis;
(e)    experience in conducting educational research and facilitating teaching development workshops for academic staff;
(f)    strong organisational and problem-solving skills, a proactive and professional work style, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively; and
(g)    excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including high proficiency in written and spoken English.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.  Applicants should state their current and expected salary in the application.
