Req ID: 1677
Faculty/Division: UofT Scarborough
Department: UTSC:Dept-Physical & Environmental Sci
Campus: University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC)

Description:

Course Description:  This graduate course provides an advanced understanding of hydrological processes occurring at the watershed scale within the broader theme of management for water resources protection.  Fundamental hydrological processes are considered in-depth and brought together through the concept of integrated watershed management.  The course makes links between scientific understanding, governance, regulations, and management approaches. Though an instructor would have academic freedom to approach the course as they wish, the course has traditionally been taught in a hybrid lecture-seminar format, with a strong focus on students becoming increasingly comfortable talking about science in a crowd, as well as honing their abilities to read and more deeply understand primary scientific research literature.

Qualifications:  PhD in physical geography, hydrology or closely-related subject.  Recent experience related to managing and/or research in watershed-scale impacts, demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications within the past 5 years. Demonstrated ability to communicate scientific research at an advanced level, as demonstrated through recent presentations at academic conferences and/or previous experience in teaching at the university level.  Demonstrated ability for understanding and using isotope-based approaches in hydrology and/or watershed management.  Past experience interfacing with industry or resource managers preferred.  Technical and pedagogical competencies in relation to the online delivery of courses would be an asset.

Duties:  All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course at the graduate level in an online environment, which includes preparation and delivery of course content though online lectures; uploading lectures and course content to online modules; live interactions via online video communications; development, creation, weekly organization and leading of discussion on current peer-reviewed literature related to watershed management; administration and marking of online assignments; marks management; holding online office hours, supervision of a TA and participation in the instructor/course evaluation process by the students.

Class Schedule:  Classes are currently scheduled on Wednesdays, 2 to 5pm.

TA Support:  TA support consistent with enrollment will be provided.

All applicants who wish to be considered for the position must submit an online application, curriculum vitae and any other supporting documentation, via the following:
