Cities and Urban Studies

The University invites applications from candidates specializing in Urban and Regional Studies, in particular, Cities and Urban Studies.

Candidates should have an international reputation of interdisciplinary scholarship in one or more of the following areas:

  1. Geography;
  2. Urban Studies;
  3. Urban Sociology; and
  4. Cities and Policy Studies.

For appointment at the rank of Chair Professor, appointee will be expected to provide strong academic leadership in both research and teaching, and to contribute to the administration and management of the Department, and to the development of the Faculty. The appointee will join the School of Graduate Studies (https://www.ln.edu.hk/sgs/) and the Faculty of Social Science (https://www.ln.edu.hk/socsc/) and will be expected to provide strong leadership in research and knowledge transfer activities to research centre / institute with focus on cities and social change, and policy studies.

General Requirements

Candidates should have a PhD degree in the relevant discipline, a distinguished record of publications in leading journals and academic achievements, and experience in academic administration. For appointment at the rank of Chair Professor, Candidates should have (a) a strong international reputation and an outstanding track record of high impact research publications and competitive research grants; (b) strong research leadership capabilities and experience, with a commitment to helping other faculty develop their research and providing research supervision to students; and (c) previous administrative leadership experience at the Department or Faculty level will be a distinct advantage.

The appointee is expected to have a strong commitment to teaching excellence and services to the Department, the University community, and to engage actively in quality research and publication.

Appointment

Internationally competitive start-up packages are available for the successful candidate. A globally competitive remuneration package commensurate with the appointee’s qualifications and experience will be offered. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund (retirement benefits scheme), gratuity, and incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee.

Appointment with substantiation/tenure will normally be considered.
