Head of Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice
Nottingham Trent University
Competitive Salary and Benefits
Guardian University of the Year 2019; Times and Sunday Times Modern University of the Year 2018; THE 2017 University of the Year; these are just some of the accolades bestowed upon Nottingham Trent University. We are focused on ‘Creating the University of the Future’, transforming the lives of our students and, through them, the world in which we live.
Our School of Social Sciences is a vibrant and inclusive learning and teaching environment grounded in scholarship, research, and professional practice. We are recognised nationally and internationally for our applied research and have fostered a culture that values the diversity of all our communities. Criminology and criminal justice is one of six Departments within the School and delivers courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level to over 1000 students through a team of 35 staff. We have strong links with the police, forensic experts, criminal justice practitioners and, through our research in quantitative and spatial criminology, the Home Office.
Reporting to the Dean and engaging across the University to enhance our offer for students and increase our research activity, our next Head will lead a committed staff group in ensuring the Department leads the way in this changing academic landscape. As we look to the future you will have the opportunity to refresh our vision and reimagine what our provision could be and, in so doing, transform the future of our students, our partners, and our research.
The role requires an experienced academic leader with a passion for innovative pedagogy, student experience and quality as well as an understanding of the relationship between the department’s resources and our student outcomes. With an excellent knowledge of contemporary criminology and criminal justice education and experience of leading change in higher education you will help build a strong profile of the Department both nationally and internationally whilst enhancing the student experience.
