Position: Sessional Instructor

Course Title and Code: CHM343H1 - Organic Synthesis Techniques

Course Description: This laboratory course showcases modern organic synthesis techniques and introduces chemical research principles.  It provides excellent preparation for a CHM499Y project in organic chemistry.  Associated lectures teach theory and problem-solving approaches from a practical perspective.

Class Schedule: Mondays & Wednesdays, 3:00-4:00 pm.  *Please note that in keeping with current circumstances, this course may be delivered in-person, remotely/online, or by a combination of delivery methods as determined by the Faculty or Department at a later date.

Sessional Date of Appointment:  January 1, 2021 to April 30, 2021 (0.50 FCEs)

Salary:  $8,489.67 for Sessional Lecturer I; $8,869.25 for Sessional Lecturer I Long Term; $9,085.58 for Sessional Lecturer II; $9,301.90 for Sessional Lecturer III, inclusive of vacation pay, or possibly higher commensurate with experience.

Please note that should the rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Qualifications: A PhD in chemistry or a closely related field is required. Experience lecturing advanced synthetic organic chemistry at the university level will be preferred.

Brief Description of Duties: The Department of Chemistry requires a sessional lecturer to deliver 24 online synchronous lectures in CHM343H1 (Organic Synthesis Techniques) during the 2021 Winter session.  The successful application will be responsible for effectively delivering the course with all of the attendant organizational issues of lecture preparation and delivery, setting and invigilating exams, marking tests and exams, calculating final course marks, administering course evaluations, holding online office hours, and so forth.
