The Department of Biological Sciences, Macquarie University is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Fellow in Molecular Microbiology.
The main objective of this project is to characterize mobile genetic elements, understand their genesis, activities and functions. This is part of ARC funded projects in the laboratory of Professor Michael Gillings.
You will have completed a PhD, or equivalent research experience, within a discipline that is relevant to the area of molecular microbiology. You will be experienced in modern molecular techniques including DNA sequencing, genomics and bioinformatics.
You will have experience as an Early Career Researcher who is able to work both in a team and independently, engage with stakeholders ranging from PhD candidates to practitioners in the area of Environmental Microbiology and Ecology.

- A PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline;
- Demonstrated skills in molecular microbiology and ecology;
- Ability to create reproducible outputs of a high standard;
- Ability to integrate data from multiple sources and maintain data source integrity;
- Demonstrated ability to prepare reports detailing progression milestones;
- Successfully publish research in high-impact international journals;
- Demonstratedability to work collaboratively and work independently without close supervision;
- Capacity to work remotely as needs be, on assigned tasks and take direction;
- Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills;
- Ability to communicate science to non-scientific partners and stakeholders.
- Established record of publications in the area of mobile DNA or lateral gene transfer;
- An understanding and familiarity with integrons and their gene cassettes;
- Experience in all aspects of laboratory maintenance and safety;
- Record of success in granting schemes;
- Experience in supervision of PhD students
